Professor Jeff Thompson CBE is Professor of Education at the University of Bath and Head of the International Baccalaureate Research Unit. After being involved in the development of the IB Diploma programme in the 1960s, he has since deployed various roles within the IB Organization as well as having major involvement in a range of national education projects including the development of the National Curriculum for England and Wales, for which he chaired the Science working group. Professor Thompson's research interests are linked to the field of international education, both nationally and internationally, and particularly to curriculum issues within that context. He served as chair of the September 2002 Conference on Interpreting International Education in Geneva, and of the October 2004 Alliance for International Education conference held in Düsseldorf and entitled Education for International Mindedness.
Professor Thompson's key publications include "Towards a Model for International Education" in International Education: Principles and Practice and International Schools and International Education: Improving Teaching, Management and Quality (both co-edited with Mary Hayden, London: Kogan Page) and International Education in Practice: dimensions for national and international schools (co-edited with Dr. Mary Hayden and Professor George Walker; London: Kogan Page). Professor Thompson is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Research in International Education, and sits on the editorial board of International Schools Journal.
