Alliance for International Education – Asian
Branch
Huangshan Gathering
June 6-8, 2008
“International Education: A Bridge to Intercultural
Understanding”
You are invited to join us for an informal gathering of the Alliance for
International Education (Asian Branch) at the Scholars Conference Hotel in
Huangshan, Anhui province, the weekend of June 6-8, 2008, opening with a Friday
evening dinner reception and welcoming address.
Our AIE Asian Branch will be established here. This will be our first gathering,
and each of us may share the work we have been doing in our professional fields
since we came together at the AIE 2006 Conference in Shanghai fifteen months
ago. This is a time for us to share our thoughts, our research, and our
projects so that we can be inspired by one another. Dr. Betty Chan, Director of
the Yew Chung Education Foundation that sponsored the 2006 Shanghai Conference,
will participate in the gathering, and later this year in October will give an
opening address at the AIE 2008 Conference in Istanbul, Turkey. She will also
inform the AIE about our many activities in China.
If you wish to present a working paper, you are welcome to do so. If you wish to
do a presentation of your current work, project or research to stimulate
discussion and feedback this would also be most welcome. This is a time for us,
as professionals concerned about the present and future of international
education, to come together to strengthen our bonds of friendship, professional
ties, and networks.
Many of you participated in the Early Childhood Education workshop at the 2006
Shanghai Conference. We are pleased to announce that Professor Kathy Sylva,
from the University of Oxford, will be attending this gathering. She is
particularly interested to reconnect with all the ECE specialists who attended
the workshop in Shanghai. Your participation in this Huangshan gathering will
further stimulate discussion and professional development in this field.
This gathering is not limited to ECE but is open to anyone in any field,
professionals as well as practitioners. For those who may be attending or want
to attend this year’s AIE 2008 Conference in Istanbul in October may have the
opportunity to present your working papers to get early feedback.
The Scholars Conference Hotel is a new and ideal venue for this gathering. It is
in the heartland of China, an ancient center of scholarship, where T’ang
dynasty towns still live and function, a scenic area graced by the nearby
majesty of MountHuang (Huangshan). We have secured special rates for rooms with
double occupancy at RMB300 per night whereas single occupancy at RMB220 per
night.
